March 7, 2008. "March"
up here for some good spring fishing! Even though we had a quite of bit of snow since Christmas, we're putting that behind us as we prepare for some great spring fishing. Right now our annual midge fishing in the Little Hole area, which is always a blast, continues daily. The time frame is pretty decent for this time of year, about 11- to 2:00 pm. This week starts daylight savings time so look for the times to be more in the 10- to 1:00 area. Very small dry flies #22-26 work well to imitate the midges, and a good choice is a Griffiths Gnat tied in with a white post for visibility. Down deeper glow bugs have been effective, as have san juan worms with smaller baetis nymphs tied on a droppers. Look for our spring Baetis activity to pick up, especially on overcast days.
FORECAST FOR THE NEXT
FEW WEEKS AHEAD- RATED 4.0 - 5.0 This week's "Hot Six Flies": The flies mentioned below suggest the available trout food and their imitations. Each week I will list the top six flies that were productive from the week before. The danger here is that things change from week to week, so while trends in fly selection can be consistent, keep in mind they do also change with current fishing conditions.
