Float the Green River

One of the best things you can do in Flaming Gorge is go and float the Green River.  It is beauty and fun at every bend in the river.

Flaming Gorge Trees

Ponderosa pines line the drive at Red Canyon Lodge and Ashley National Forest.  These beautiful pine trees have amazing reddish bark that actually smells like cream soda.  I’m not joking.  Don’t forget to take a hike around East Greens Lake at Red Canyon Lodge and enjoy the beauty of Flaming Gorge Ponderosa Pine Trees.

flaming gorge fishing

One of the top reasons for visiting Flaming Gorge is the fly fishing.  We have trout, we have burbot and we even have a Burbot Bash every January.  Did you know that burbot tastes just like cod.  Delicious! And they are gigantic. Come catch all the fish you can dream of in Flaming Gorge and at the private stocked lake at Red Canyon Lodge.

flaming gorge wildlife

As the snow melts and the ice breaks off, the breezy winds bring change to the mountain as it starts to come to life. It’s a beautiful time to witness the flowing waterfalls and streams. You’ll see every color of wildflower surrounded by green foliage peaking through our ponderosa pine trees.

In the springtime, the animals begin to migrate and Red Canyon becomes a sanctuary for passing through wildlife. Our legendary hummingbirds hang out at our lodge restaurant, which is actually a Hummingbird Research Site! Working with our biologists, we help craft the ideal ecosystem for these little birds to thrive in our high Uinta mountains during the Summer. In the peak hummingbird season, our biologists will host an event called “Hummingbird Banding.”  The birds will enter a netted feeder, before our team intercepts them to record their data. During our most popular morning, we were able to record 109 birds visiting the Red Canyon feeders. We even spotted a 5 year old bird, who was last traced to a research site in Escalante, UT!

The Cart Creek Bridge

The Cart Creek Suspension Bridge is fun to drive over, fun to look at, and fun to boat under. Don’t miss this bridge on your trip to Flaming Gorge.
