Dutch John, Utah Lodging
Thirteen miles from town, one mile off the highway
Dutch John is the small town that grew up around the building of Flaming Gorge Dam, and it is still the jumping-off point for the Green River tailwater below it. What it does not have much of is places to stay.
Red Canyon Lodge is 13 miles from Dutch John and one mile off the highway, up on the rim in the ponderosa pines. Twenty-one cabins, a private stocked trout lake, a restaurant and a stable — close enough to be on the river at first light, far enough that you are sleeping in the forest rather than beside the road.
