Flaming Gorge Mountain Biking –
Ride from the cabin door.
The Canyon Rim Trail runs along the edge of Red Canyon with the reservoir 1,400 feet below, and it starts within riding distance of our cabins. Smooth, forested single track that a strong ten-year-old can handle and an experienced rider will still enjoy — a rare combination. We keep a fleet of adult mountain bikes at the lodge, so you do not need a rack on the car to ride here.

Bike rentals at the lodge
Adult mountain bikes are $20 and include a helmet. We stock one extra small, one small, three medium, three large and one extra large, so most groups can be outfitted at once. On a busy summer weekend, ask at the front desk the night before.

The Canyon Rim Trail
About 4.5 miles one way, from near the lodge out to the Red Canyon Visitor Center along the rim. Reservoir views open up the whole way and the grade stays friendly. Ride it out and back, or shuttle and coast one direction.

The road to the overlook
Two miles of paved road climbing to the visitor center and the overlook. The simplest ride on the property, and it finishes at the best view in the area.

Ashley National Forest
The lodge sits inside more than 100,000 acres of national forest laced with forest roads and doubletrack that see almost no traffic. Ask us for a map first and tell someone where you are going — cell service is unreliable off the rim.

When to ride
Late spring through early autumn is the season. September is our quiet favourite: the aspens turn, the bugs are gone and the trail is usually yours. Flaming Gorge in the fall

After the ride
Every cabin has a covered porch and a fire pit with a flip-down grill, and we bring firewood daily. Fishing poles and boats rent at the dock if your legs need a day off. All rentals
